Well that was a fun Premiere Week, wasn't it? Good thing it's all over and we can get back to—what? Oh there's still a ton of premieres and another network out there? Oh yes! The adorable, cuddly little CW still hasn't rolled out any of its new shows, and won't for a little over a week. But The CW is accepting the strategy of trying to get word out early and has uploaded the pilot episode of Emily Owens, M.D. to YouTube.
Emily Owens, M.D. stars Mamie Gummer (Off the Map; Meryl Streep's daughter) as a doctor who's just out of medical school and eager to start her life over at her first gig in a Denver hospital. After years of school cliques and bossy cool kids, Emily can't wait for a fresh start. Except she quickly finds out that hospital life isn't that much different from school life.
I'm not sure why The CW chose the relatively low-profile Emily Owens, M.D. as its guinea pig to test out what Fox, NBC, and ABC have already practiced, but I'd guess it's because the network thinks the show is a lot better than some less-than-supportive early reviews suggest. For the record, our staff liked it more than most people, but we didn't find it to be a must-watch. Take a look for yourself!
What did you think? Would you prescribe Emily Owens, M.D. to your friends? Or is your prognosis that the show will flatline soon? I will "thumbs up" any comment that uses doctor-y and medical puns.
