The Walking Dead Pre-finale Death Pool: Who Do You Think Is Going to Make It Out Alive?

Way back in October, before The Walking Dead kicked off Season 3, before we'd even met The Governor we now know so well, we started a friendly little Death Pool and asked you to vote on which characters you thought would live to see the end of the season (apparently we should've also included showrunner Glenn Mazzara; who knew?). Fifteen episodes later, the cast is looking a bit different—T-Dog and Lori are long-gone, Merle returned only to leave us last week, and Andrea has taken on the mantle of "most-hated character." Plus there are a few new folks to consider (hi, Tyreese!).

And so, with the Season 3 finale just a couple days away, it's time to place your bets once again: There's no way we're getting through the big war without casualties. But who do you think will live, and who do you think will become zombie chow? There's gotta be at least one more "big" death on the way, right? Make your predictions by voting in the polls below, then let's hear your reasoning—as well your wishes—in the comments.

Castle "Scared to Death" Review: Ring Around the Hokey

Castle S05E17: "Scared to Death"

After a two-week break following one of the better (if still ridiculous) dramatic arcs the series has had in a while, I was kind of hoping that we'd return to a rejuvenated Castle. It's not that this season hasn't mostly delivered—outside of some of its more lackluster standalone episodes, it's largely been quite solid—but after such a dramatic, James Brolin-flavored rush, and a couple of weeks to catch our breath, I was ready to return to the fun-lovin' murder-solvin', divorced-from-any-larger-story context. We certainly got that, but beyond a few good laughs, "Scared to Death" might have been the worst episode of the season yet.

"Scared to Death" lives in the same problematic area that last season's zombie episode took up residence in. The premise, which involved the thoroughly hokey notion of a spooky, demonic DVD that kills its viewers three days after they view it, was mired in a supernatural kookiness that might be believable in, say, a particularly murder-filled episode of Scooby Doo, but made no sense in a show that is, by and large, predicated in real-world crime-solving. I grant you that much of what happens on Castle is kind of silly and unbelievable, but there's a difference between, say, a crime-solving author with a CIA agent father tagging along on endless murder investigations with a super-hot lady detective whose mother was killed in a massive, far-reaching conspiracy involving corrupt senators and god knows what else, and actual evil spirits coming back and killing people.

Of course, actual evil spirits were nowhere to be found in "Scared to Death." Just like the dumb, dumb, dumb zombies episode, this one has an entirely corporeal evil at the center of it. But for long stretches of "Scared to Death," Castle, as well as Esposito and Ryan, were periodically convinced that something creepy, kooky, and altogether ooky was going on. Beckett, for her part, remained unconvinced, as any sane person should have. She attempted to reason with her suddenly cowardly compatriots, and even volunteered to view the DVD herself, despite grave warnings from Castle, who accidentally watched it at the crime scene.

And speaking of the video, it was maybe one of the silliest things I've seen mature adults attempt to appear fearful of on a major television program. It was an obnoxious hodgepodge of The Ring-inspired imagery that looked like it was constructed by a 16-year-old with terrible taste in horror movies and a fondness for crappy video-editing filters. And yet its hilariously delivered warning of, "You saw it. Three days. You die." was somehow completely terrifying to Castle, a grown-ass man who's seen plenty of other seemingly supernatural events pass by with entirely reasonable explanations.

It's not that I don't appreciate Castle's occasional childlike qualities. I like that he's a big, silly man-baby who plays the coward when it's funny, but can still be heroic when real trouble comes. But the writers' insistence of putting their characters through such nonsense plots is never not awful. These people are not stupid. We've watched them evolve over five seasons now, and the idea that Castle was actually terrified that a video was going to kill him was maybe just a bit more than I could take.

It was especially ridiculous given that the writers so clearly hated this plot idea, too. The Castle crew brought up The Ring no fewer than three times during the episode, which included a particularly bizarre cameo from Wes Craven, whom Castle called up to "hypothetically" discuss a way out of his predicament. It's one thing to maybe knock on the fourth wall a bit and poke fun at how stupid something like this is, but "Scared to Death" seemed almost embarrassed at times by its utter lack of originality.

Almost nothing about this episode worked. Not Castle and Beckett wandering into a spooky old hotel briefly seen in the video. Not Castle and Beckett wandering into an insane asylum on a dark and stormy night. Not the realization that all the victims were witnesses in the trial of a serial killer. Not the fact that the serial killer's dead body had apparently gone missing from its grave. None of it was scary, creepy, or even particularly entertaining. It just felt like the tossed-out entrails of various horror scripts being stitched together into a lazy, altogether unpleasant... thing.

Really, the only tolerable thing "Scared to Death" provided was a few decent jokes. Beckett's constant teasing of Castle over his death fears (not to mention her frequent, only half-joking sexual advances) was fun, and Esposito and Ryan's bro-dude fist-bumping over their own mutual cowardice in not wanting to watch the video was pretty great. But other than those few amusing bits, "Scared to Death" was pretty much a wash. Too often the episode became bogged down in its own unenthusiastic usage of tired horror tropes, and the result, which featured the daughter of a man originally accused of the crimes committed by the dead serial killer using the "scary" video and a defibrillator as a way to extract revenge on the witnesses who originally fingered her dad—it was a bit much, really.

Some shows can do horror and make it work. Castle is not such a show. Maybe some day, the show's writers will figure that out.

NOTES

– Ryan's assertion that he couldn't view the video because he's trying to have a child and doesn't want any evil spirits causing him and his wife bad juju was maybe the most honest character moment of this entire episode.

– I don't know why Wes Craven was in this episode. He didn't even make The Ring. Was Gore Verbinski just busy?

– In order to keep Craven on the phone, Castle immediately launched into a genuflecting diatribe on how great all of Craven's movies are, including his most recent movie, My Soul to Take. First rule in praising a director: Don't talk about how great a movie they made that everyone hated and nobody went to see was. They won't believe you.

– Just a quick "You're super old!" reminder that The Ring is an 11-year-old movie.

The Vampire Diaries Season 4 Death Pool: Who Will Live, Who Will Die?

This week one of America's national treasures returns to the airwaves for another sickeningly entertaining spree of romance-flavored madness. Of course, when it comes to The Vampire Diaries we can expect certain guarantees: Unrequited love, betrayal, angst, transmogrification, bare pectorals, witty repartee, a crumbling educational system, and hilarious, hilarious wigs. But let's not overlook perhaps the most crucial element in the TVD multi-verse: DEATH ITSELF. In no town does the grim reaper work harder and with a more slavish devotion to breaking our hearts than in Mystic Falls. And with a positively swollen cast list this season, it's safe to say that a house clearing just may be in order.

Just to give you a sense of the stakes we're dealing with here: In Season 1 we lost Grams, Vicki, Mayor Lockwood, Pearl, Anna, and Sean Faris's torso. Season 2 ended the lives of Isobel, John, Jenna, Uncle Werewolf, and my beloved Rose. And I probably don't even need to remind you who we lost in Season 3: Dana, Esther, Finn, Mikael, Bill Forbes, and Alaric (multiple times). Anyway, that's at least one "regular" cast member death plus several deaths of characters that had been introduced in previous seasons each season! SO WHO WILL DIE IN SEASON 4?

Actually, let's make a game out of it: You leave your pick(s) for who will die this season in the comments below, and next May after we've shed our final tears over whatever devastation Julie Plec will have dreamt up for the finale, we can look back at this macabre time capsule and see who called it best! (For the purposes of this piece, "death" means "no longer in this realm." Vampirism doesn't count.)

Here are the known possible candidates. Choose wisely!

KLAUS
Actor:
Joseph Morgan

Current Status: We last saw Klaus's body in flames after Evil Alaric poked it real good with a silvery white oak stake (or whatever the F). Notably, the coffin door was closed before Klaus's body completely burned up (Evil Alaric didn't know much about how fire works), so there's a chance it's still salvageable. Klaus's soul, however, currently inhabits Tyler's body, where he'll now presumably have much easier access to Caroline's heart, head, and ladyparts.

Reasons He Could Die: Now that Klaus's master plan seems to have run its course (he's a hybrid; he knows how to reproduce), the show may look for a way to get him out of everybody's hair for good.

Reasons He's Safe: Theoretically, if Klaus dies so will his entire bloodline, which seems to include the Salvatores, Katherine, Caroline, Abby, and Tyler. So, you know, that would be bad for the show in general. Plus: What kind of monster would want to kill off a character played by Joseph Morgan?

Odds of getting killed off: 100 to 1
KATHERINE
Actor
: Nina Dobrev

Current Status: Katherine's been M.I.A. ever since Klaus took up permanent residence in Mystic Falls. (Missing in action. She didn't take up rapping. (I THINK.))

Reasons She Could Die: Now that Elena's a vampire (and hopefully on the road toward becoming a badass), Katherine's become slightly superfluous. Add to that the possibility that we'll meet the original doppelganger, and there's a chance Nina Dobrev herself would demand that Katherine be killed just to make things easier on her sleeping schedule.

Reasons She's Safe: Katherine is such a fan-favorite (and from her dialogue at least, a writers' room favorite) that to lose her could affect the overall flavor of the series.

Odds of getting killed off: 4 to 1
BONNIE
Actor:
Kat Graham

Current Status: Mad at everybody. Hopefully making sure the soul of the original vampire that she helped doesn't try and molest her bestie.

Reasons She Could Die: Season 3 dropped more than a few big hints that Bonnie could be headed into dark magic territory, which means she could become a Big Bad, which means she might be headed for an epic, season-finale-style death. You gotta admit, that would be pretty compelling.

Reasons She's Safe: Demographics. Let's be real, diversity is a bit of an issue for The CW and this show in particular. Also Bonnie is very important to the series in that she's a walking deus ex machina who has gotten almost every character out of a pickle or two. Credit where credit's due!

Odds of getting killed off: 50 to 1
REBEKAH
Actor:
Claire Holt

Current Status: In the doghouse with most of Mystic Falls for kinda-sorta causing Matt to drive off Wickery Bridge.

Reasons She Could Die: Currently Rebekah doesn't have a solid love interest, which can be fatal in a show like this. Plus, just how much story is left to be told with Rebekah?

Reasons She's Safe: Rebekah's slow transformation from a thousand-year-old vampire into a teenage high school girl was one of Season 3's best elements, and I for one would love to see that continue. And who knows, maybe Matt will finally like her back for real? But anyway, come on: Claire Holt is a future superstar. Why on earth would the writers want to stop writing for her?

Odds of getting killed off: 5 to 1
MATT
Actor: Zach Roerig

Current Status: Matt was last seen getting rescued by Stefan while Elena drowned TO DEATH.

Reasons He Could Die: It's a miracle that Matt is still alive, to be honest. But in this case Damon won't be too thrilled about Matt's role in the accident, plus Elena may not be able to prevent herself from drinking him like a Capri Sun TO DEATH.

Reasons He's Safe: It's Matt! He will outlive us all. I have a working theory that this whole show is just a fever dream nightmare that an 80-year-old Matt has been recounting to his senile roommate at a rest home.

Odds of getting killed off: 40 to 1
MEREDITH
Actor:
: Torrey DeVitto

Current Status: After a fakeout in which we suspected Meredith was the town serial killer, it turned out she was a clever and trustworthy ally to our heroes.

Reasons She Could Die: Now that Alaric is dead, it may be harder to justify keeping Meredith involved in the characters' lives. Plus her transgressions against the town populace (treating them with vampire blood for seemingly ANY affliction) could get her in trouble with a resurgent anti-vampire council.

Reasons She's Safe: Meredith is a key character from the books who was a long time coming for the TV series. It would be super rude for the writers to give her the boot so soon.

Odds of getting killed off: 8 to 1
TYLER
Actor:
Michael Trevino

Current Status: It's not clear where Tyler's SOUL resides, but we know that his body is the current home and/or plaything of Klaus.

Reasons He Could Die: It's automatically a bad sign if your character is so inessential that he disappears for a half-dozen episodes at a time. But also, the werewolves are mostly useless? And a Tyler death could be used for maximum emotional impact in a Caroline arc.

Reasons He's Safe: Tyler does more than his fair share of maintaining TVD's shirtlessness quota, plus if the werewolves are going to continue being an integral part of the series, he's their current best bet for representation.

Odds of getting killed off: 9 to 1
SHERIFF FORBES
Actor: Marguerite MacIntyre

Current Status: Last we checked, Sheriff Forbes was basically pro-monster, frequently helping her daughter and friends deal with the anti-vampire forces in town. In the season finale she even helped Caroline and Tyler get fake IDs so that they could go on the run and avoid the Council.

Reasons She Could Die: It's been implied that this season will see a big upheaval in Mystic Falls' leadership, and that could include a change of management in the Sheriff's Department. Plus, you know, this show LOVES to make Caroline cry.

Reasons She's Safe: It's apparently Mystic Falls law that a Forbes MUST be the Sheriff, so unless we meet some new cousin of Caroline's, it looks like Liz is here to stay.

Odds of getting killed off: 10 to 1
KOL
Actor: Nathaniel Buzolic

Current Status: After spending quality time in Denver with Jeremy and having one last baseball-bat-themed throwdown with Damon at some dead vampire lady's house, Kol headed for the hills and stayed far away from Mystic Falls.

Reasons He Could Die: Personality-wise he is basically the worst. Kol barely did anything in Season 3 except behave like a sneering jerk and inspire dozens of bizarre/scary Tumblrs.

Reasons He's Safe: His character has been pretty unexplored so far. I'm not saying this show always fleshes out its characters before killing them off, but it would seem that Kol's immediate death could be a missed opportunity.

Odds of getting killed off: 3 to 1
JAMIE
Actor: Robert Ri'chard

Current Status: Jamie and Bonnie share a mother, but that didn't stop them from sparking a bit of a romance at the Decade Dance. But just when Bonnie was about to get her swerve on (finally), Esther totally cockblocked them! It's not clear where Jamie went after that. Probably to chop more wood.

Reasons He Could Die: This show loves F-ing with Bonnie so much. Jamie's death could be seen as the final straw in her descent into the dark side.

Reasons He's Safe: Same with Kol, it would seem that Jamie isn't quite fleshed out enough for his death to be meaningful. However, that's also reason enough to kill him off, right? I don't know. He pretty much seems like a goner to me for some reason.

Odds of getting killed off: 2 to 1
MRS. LOCKWOOD
Actor: Susan Walters

Current Status: Last we checked, Mayor Lockwood was in hot water with the newly ticked anti-vampire council and was using her power to help Tyler and Caroline run off together.

Reasons She Could Die: Ever since becoming pro-monster, Mayor Lockwood has most likely provoked the wrath of a council that would just as easily recall her as have her murdered.

Reasons She's Safe: It's doubtful this show would want Tyler to become an orphan, let alone eliminate the leader of one of the town's most powerful families in a show ABOUT powerful families. What would TVD be without the Lockwoods?

Odds of getting killed off: 30 to 1
ABBY
Actor: Persia White

Current Status: After reuniting with her daughter, getting killed, and being converted into a vampire, Abby returned for one last round of witchcraft when she assisted with Bonnie's desiccatio-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Reasons She Could Die: ZZZZZZZ

Reasons She's Safe: ZZZZZZ

Odds of getting killed off: 3 to 1
ELIJAH
Actor: Daniel Gillies

Current Status: Elijah ended the season trying to negotiate for possession of Klaus's body, but became suddenly confused when he learned that Klaus was supposedly perma-dead though his bloodline wasn't. "WTF is going on?" —Elijah (paraphrasing).

Reasons He Could Die: Elijah is beloved enough by the fans that his death would be shocking and meaningful. Also Daniel Gillies appeared in a lead role on the now-canceled Saving Hope, which could mean he's looking to continue working elsewhere.

Reasons He's Safe: Elijah's backstory has yet to be fully mined, particularly the details of his relationship with Katherine (and Katherine's original ancestor). Also if Elijah died his fan base would take to the street, flip over cars, etc.

Odds of getting killed off: 8 to 1
JEREMY
Actor: Steven R. McQueen

Current Status: In the Season 3 finale, Jeremy helped Matt whisk Elena out of town before he was visited by the ghost of a finally-dead Alaric.

Reasons He Could Die: Like Tyler, Jeremy's been known to disappear for stretches of episodes, which could mean there just isn't tons of story potential with this character. Also he's rumored to be getting in deep with a new a vampire hunter, which could have some deadly consequences seeing as he lives in a town full of vampires.

Reasons He's Safe: Jeremy's pretty much Elena's biggest tie to her own humanity now, so it would be particularly brutal of the writers to take that away from her. Plus, come on, look at this kid. Who would want to kill him off?

Odds of getting killed off: 75 to 1
HAYLEY
Actor: Phoebe Tonkin

Current Status: We haven't met Hayley yet, but it's rumored that she'll be a werewolf friend of Tyler's who helped him gain control over his pain when he was up morphin' in the mountains.

Reasons She Could Die: The main reason would be that guest-stars just don't last very long on this show, particularly werewolf ones. Plus as Tyler's foxy friend, she might just find herself on the wrong side of one of Caroline's bad days.

Reasons She's Safe: Aside from the fact that this show needs a good old-fashioned werewolf again (Tyler's technically a hybrid), Phoebe Tonkin is the highest-profile actor snapped up by TVD in a while. Assuming the writers figure out how to properly harness her awesomeness, she could very well be sticking around for the foreseeable future (or at least until she scores The CW's new Wonder Woman gig).

Odds of getting killed off: 9 to 1
CONNOR JORDAN
Actor: Todd Williams

Current Status: Another new character, Connor is rumored to be a vampire hunter of some kind. It's not yet clear if upon arriving in Mystic Falls he will immediately give up vampire hunting and develop a drinking problem instead.

Reasons He Could Die: Honestly, from the sounds of it he seems like a four-episodes-at-best villain. I guess we'll find out!

Reasons He's Safe: This show could really use a fearsome vampire hunter as a long-running adversary. His longevity on the series will probably come down to Williams' charisma, let's be honest. Charisma tends to keep people alive around these parts!

Odds of getting killed off: 3 to 1
PROFESSOR SHANE
Actor: David Alpay

Current Status: This new character is rumored to be someone from whom Bonnie seeks guidance.

Reasons He Could Die: As he's an authority figure working in the field of education, something tells me Professor Shane will always be judged unfavorably against Alaric. Unless there's something else to his backstory, he just reeks of expendability.

Reasons He's Safe: I'm guessing Professor Shane's plotlines will be a way to acclimate us to the reality of college life in Mystic Falls, so he may survive at least until our heroes enroll at the university in Season 5. Assuming that these characters even graduate high school. (WHICH I WON'T.)

Odds of getting killed off: 15 to 1
GABBY DOUGLAS
Actor: Gabby Douglas

Current Status: After revealing that TVD was one of her favorite shows, the cast and crew welcomed America's favorite gold medalist (non-Nathan Adrian edition) with open arms. It's not clear what kind of character her walk-on cameo will be, but I like to think she'll be playing herself and in full leotard.

Reasons She Could Die: If the producers were serious about giving Gabby Douglas the royal treatment, then what experience in Mystic Falls would be complete without getting MURDERED? The only question is, which Salvatore brother did Douglas choose to do the honors?

Reasons She's Safe: Maybe America doesn't want to see Gabby Douglas get murdered? We're not all McKayla Maroney.

Odds of getting killed off: 1 to 1
BONNIE'S DAD
Actor: Not yet cast

Current Status: We've only ever heard about Bonnie's dad from a smattering of off-hand remarks over the course of three seasons (!). But it's clear he's not a huge fan of her witchcraft or even knowing what she's up to or where she's staying at any given time or her general well-being. He's pretty chill like that.

Reasons He Could Die: His introduction and then sudden murder would be yet another way to drive Bonnie toward the dark side. Remember, this guy is allegedly the parent she's closest to.

Reasons He's Safe: Um. I guess maybe because his daughter knows magic sometimes?

Odds of getting killed off: 2 to 1

Comment below and we'll revisit this piece in the spring to see who came the closest!

The Walking Dead Season 3 Death Pool: Who Will Live, Who Will Die?

How long do you think you'd last in a zombie apocalypse? One day? One week? Sixty-six years, three months, two weeks, and six days? For the characters of AMC's The Walking Dead, surviving three full seasons would be an impressive feat.

We know that some major characters won't make it to see Season 4, and with Season 3 about to start this Sunday, now's the perfect time to put some bullseyes on the characters we think will be zombie snacks.

Here are the characters fighting for the right to still be called survivors by next year.

RICK GRIMES
Actor:
Andrew Lincoln

Current Status: Rick's the de facto leader of the group now that Shane is dead, murdered by Rick then re-murdered by Carl. He's a bit on edge now that Lori is pregnant and I guess all the zombies aren't helping either.

Reasons He Could Die: This show will kill ANYONE at ANYTIME except let's be honest probably not Rick. But imagine the tsunami-sized wall of shit that would crash the Internet if he did. For that reason alone, you have to consider it a possibility. Tiny, tiny possibility.

Reasons He's Safe: He's Rick Grimes, beeeeeitch! If he gets more than 10 votes in the poll below then you guys are doing it just to annoy me.

Odds of getting killed off: 1,482 to 1. Make that 1,483 to 1.
LORI GRIMES
Actor: Sarah Wayne Callies

Current Status: Pregnant as allll Hell. Which means her hormones will probably make her do even more stupid things. Did she want Shane dead? Did she want Shane alive? Depends on the day, apparently.

Reasons She Could Die: The billions of Lori Grimes voodoo dolls shredded, impaled, and drowned by The Walking Dead fans. She could not look where she's going and fall off a cliff. AIDS from having sex with so many people who aren't her husband. Because the creators read message boards.

Reasons She's Safe: Well, she's pregnant, and killing a pregnant woman would be bold even for this show. And once she gives birth (which could happen this season), how cruel would it be to kill off the newborn's mother?

Odds of getting killed off: 7 to 1 but if we pray hard enough maybe we can inch this down to 1 to 1,000,000!
CARL GRIMES
Actor: Chandler Riggs

Current Status: Growing up! Carl took a major step towards adulthood by killing the zombie version of his dad's best friend. You can just skip puberty now, Carl.

Reasons He Could Die: Carl suffers from a deadly condition known as "terrible parenting" and can often be found walking alone in the woods, wandering around in bogs without supervision, and poking zombies with sticks. It's a wonder he's still alive.

Reasons He's Safe: Well, he's the last kid remaining. The show can't kill Sophia AND him, can they? He's also the show's metaphor for how much the world has changed, and he's pretty useful at getting other characters killed (Carl's bad, Dale!). Plus, he's getting pretty good with a gun and we have to see at least one season highlighting Carl as the world's greatest zombie killer because that's what this series is working up to, right?

Odds of getting killed off: 15 to 1, but should be a lot closer to 1 to 1.
GLENN
Actor: Steven Yeun

Current Status: Glenn is currently one half of the show's power couple and the group's go-to gopher, especially when it involves dangling into a well housing a fat hungry zombie for no good reason at all.

Reasons He Could Die: The only way he goes if he does some heroic "I'll save you Maggie!" sacrifice, because this guy is whipped. Glenn doesn't do stupid things on his own, but the group loves to put him in ridiculously stupid dangerous situations. It's obviously because they're anti-Asian. Watch your back, Glenn! The zombies are the least of your worries!

Reasons He's Safe: He's fast, quick, smart, and plucky. And he can be a coward at times, or as I like to say, a survivor. It also doesn't hurt to share the first name of the showrunner. No way Mazzara comes into work saying, "Today we're killing off... me."

Odds of getting killed off: 10 to 1, but if he dies I'm gonna be real mad!
ANDREA
Actor: Laurie Holden

Current Status: Poor Andrea got separated from the rest of the group after the torching of the farm, and we last saw her ass getting saved by the mysterious hooded woman with the katana.

Reasons She Could Die: I love Andrea, but from a storytelling perspective she's a little expendable. She doesn't really have solid ties to any of the other characters anymore. Plus, she had sex with Shane so she probably has a lethal does of crabs.

Reasons She's Safe: She's being watched over by a badass woman with katanas.

Odds of getting killed off: 20 to 2, 40 to 4, 100 to 10 (math joke!).
DARYL M'F'ING DIXON
Actor: Norman Reedus

Current Status: Sneering in the corner.

Reasons He Could Die: To upset fans. Wasn't in the comics.

Reasons He's Safe: Because he's Daryl Motherf***ing Dixon.

Odds of getting killed off: 500 to 1.
HERSHEL GREENE
Actor: Scott Wilson

Current Status: He's a broken man who just saw his family eaten and his undead family shot in the face and his farm burned to the ground, so he's back on the sauce and not sure this whole Jesus thing was really a good choice.

Reasons He Could Die: Ummm... everything? He's old! He's slow! He's drunk! Also, if we're playing by Lost rules, he (Scott Wilson) was busted for a DUI in August while filming in Georgia so he's as good as gone.

Reasons He's Safe: I'll let you know when I think of one.

Odds of getting killed off: Even money.
MAGGIE GREENE
Actor: Lauren Cohan

Current Status: Totally stressing out or making out with Glenn.

Reasons She Could Die: Maybe because Lauren is antsy to grow her hair out again? Honestly, I don't see her dying, especially looking at that picture of her about to bisect a zombie with a machete.

Reasons She's Safe: She's got Glenn to protect her, and she's got herself to protect herself. I mean, look at that picture! This is a woman who is NOT dying. We also don't want Cohan to have to go back to The CW and suffer through another half-formed character.

Odds of getting killed off: 50 to 1.
BETH GREENE
Actor: Emily Kinney

Current Status: She's on this show? Wait, who is she again? When did she show up?

Reasons She Could Die: She's so innocent that killing her makes for a great reminder that these zombies are pretty awful and really indiscriminate with who they decide to eat. Stupid zombies. She doesn't seem like the heartiest survivor, either. She'd have a problem killing a zombie even if she had a flamethrower chainsaw nail-gun rocket-launcher acid-hose with zombie-seeking missiles.

Reasons She's Safe: She's cute (though that didn't help Andrea's sister). And she has no chance of going into any dangerous situation. While Rick and Glenn and Daryl go clear the prison of ghouls, Beth will be making bologna sandwiches.

Odds of getting killed off: 4 to 1. Cute doesn't matter much during the zombies apocalypse.
T-DOG
Actor: IronE Singleton

Current Status: Every second T-Dog is alive is literally a miracle. But there he is, always available to do the chores and dirty work no one else wants to.

Reasons He Could Die: Horror movie rule number one: he's black. He also wasn't in the comics, has no bond with anyone else, and has a line of dialogue once every half season. Seriously everyone, HOW IS HE ALIVE? He's breaking every rule of television.

Reasons He's Safe: Given the amount of obstacles and stereotypes he's overcome, I'm pretty sure he's God. And how great of a prank would it be to just keep him alive forever knowing that we expect him to die any second? He also has a great immune system, if surviving that nasty infection was any indication.

Odds of getting killed off: Somewhere between 200 to 1 and 1 to 200.
CAROL PELETIER
Actor: Melissa McBride

Current Status: Carol has also defied the odds by surviving, narrowly escaping dire situation after direr situation in the Season 2 finale. Her husband is dead, her kid is dead, and her will isn't looking too great either.

Reasons She Could Die: Let's face it, she isn't exactly the strongest of the bunch. And I wouldn't be surprised if Daryl killed her at some point from all the weird advances she makes on him. But the real reason: do we really need characters named Daryl, Carol, and Carl? Kill the link between the similar sounding names, and things will go a lot smoother.

Reasons She's Safe: The cast and crew are very fond of McBride, and her character is ripe for a personality overhaul in Season 3. She also won't be on the frontlines, instead she'll be back at camp cutting the crusts off the sandwiches Beth made.

Odds of getting killed off: 5 to 1 by zombie, 2 to 1 by Daryl's "accidental" crossbow shot.
MICHONNE
Actor: Danai Gurira

Current Status: We don't really know much about her, but she's got Andrea and a couple of armless, jawless zombies that she keeps as pets.

Reasons She Could Die: Yeah right.

Reasons She's Safe: She appears to be the only one who has figured this zombie thing out because she's the epitome of a survivor. And I don't know if you saw her sword skills in the trailers, but she has no problems with zombies and could probably take out a few Highlanders at the same time. She kinda makes Daryl look like a pussy.

Odds of getting killed off: Zilch. There's a better chance that she'll kill you.
THE GOVERNOR
Actor: David Morrissey

Current Status: We haven't met him yet, but we know the big bad from the comics is coming this season.

Reasons He Could Die: Season 3 just feels like a one-season arc for the bad guy, doesn't it?

Reasons He's Safe: Well, I'm pretty sure he's amassed an army and has taken over a community of willing and able soldiers, like those guys Rick killed in town, so he's got that going for him.

Odds of getting killed off: 5 to 1, unless the writers really want to drag out his story into Season 4.
ZOMBIES
Actor:
Struggling actors, baristas who had the weekend off, contest winners

Current Status: Roaming around Georgia looking for brains.

Reasons They Could Die: I'm not gonna lie: The odds are pretty stacked against them. Decaying skin and weakened bone structure allow for sharp objects to pass through with minimal effort, and blunt objects are pretty effective too. Still can't think beyond, "I'm hungry." Have not grasped the concept of tools. Stupid. In a show where a lot of zombies get killed.

Reasons He's Safe: There are more of them than there are of us. If they could somehow organize a coordinated attack with flanks and cover fire and maybe a few called-in airstrikes, they have a shot!

Odds of getting killed off: I'd say pretty darn good!

Comment below and we'll revisit this story at the end of the season to see who came the closest!
