Open Caption: Fringe's Return

This is it, you captioners, you! This is the very last Open Caption contest for a while. I will announce the winners on Monday and from there it will drift away into hiatus-status for an undisclosed amount of time. It will be back one day! And what can I say, it's been such a pleasure. Now let's do this! Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From StrawDog:

Chris: "LITERALLY the best swaddling I've ever had."

From Taccado:

Chris: "This is literally the softest beard I have ever felt."

From Homerman92:

Andy: "I found him in the fetal position crying about how he'll never run as fast as Usain Bolt."

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that Fringe is one of your most loved shows. And rightly so. So I hope you enjoy captioning it! Tonight's Season 5 premiere drops us off in the year 2036 as Peter and Etta search for Olivia. Simultaneously, the future Fringe team is being released from 20 years of amber and decides to join a rebellion against the Observer. Intense! In the still below, Peter (left, in the shadows), Walter (center) and Etta (right) search for Olivia in an underground black market kind of place. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: The End Is Here

Well, Captioners, this is it. As much as it pains me to say goodbye (and it does!), it's go time. Literally. But actually, you know what? You don't have to let my abandonment keep you from captioning—qbe_64 made a pretty great call over the weekend:

I say go for it! Go rogue! Keep the tradition alive! In the meantime, here are the winners from Friday's contest. Like many of you, I felt that capping off the season with an Open Caption inside joke was the perfect way to go out:

From Europass:

Walter: "I get paid over $87 per hour working from home with a cow named Gene and pancakes. I never thought I'd be able to do it but my best friend earned over 10k a month doing this and he convinced me to try. Unfortunately, he almost destroyed the world."

From darkitp:

Walter: "Wow, even after 25 years, people still drive cars... suck on that, Emmett Brown!"

From ToddMurray:

Walter: "Welcome to 2036. The TV.com Open Caption Contest will finally be reappearing in 3... 2... 1.... now! ....Now? ....I'm sure my calculations were correct."

It's been a fun ride, all! Special thanks to those of you who have remained loyal captioners since I can remember, but also to those of you who just felt like popping in on occasion. Without all of you, this whole game would have sucked. And it didn't! So that's something! I hope you get to start captioning again soon, but in the meantime, keep it real, and all the best!

Open Caption: Parks and Recreation

Well, I've got to admit: Fewer people were excited about a South Park captioning opportunity than I expected. Lesson learned! But hey, I enjoyed the submissions we did get, so that's something! Any opinions on which show you'd like to caption for our VERY LAST contest tomorrow? I'm taking suggestions! Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From Taccado:

Butters: " W-why the tinfoil hats?! They are our most important gear. Now our opponents can't read our minds."

From shre123:

Kyle: " Are the bras even necessary?"
Cartman: " Speak for yourself Kyle, my jugs feel well supported."

From bonezrulz05:

Butters: "Thank you, o' wise minions, for pledging your life to Professor Chaos."
Cartman: "That's great Butters, now where's the free KFC?"
Butters: "In due time, my servant."
Cartman: "There is no KFC, is there? You son of a b!tch, Butters. Screw you guys, I'm going home."

I know we did this show last week, but I just couldn't find a reason not to post the image I found. In tonight's "Soda Tax" Leslie decides to battle Pawnee's obesity rates by passing tax on soda. (Topical...) Coincidentally, Andy is also working on battling the bulge, but really he's just trying to get in shape for a police-entrance exam. Andy as a police officer—that's rich. In the still below, Andy and Chris take to the track—but somehow Chris winds up in Andy's arms... Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: South Park's Sarcastaball

You guys are killin' it with these caption suggestions. Let's keep up the good work! Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From Taccado:

Schmidt: " Check out my new designer kangaroo leather boxers..."
Winston: "Douche Bag Jar."

From LisaFrankel:

Schmidt: "No, dude this is EXACTLY how they did it on Project Runway."

From wind_shadow:

Schmidt: "Do you think this outfit is too trashy?"
Winston: "Well, I see your sense of humor is on par with your sense of style...."

We are DOIN' IT: We are captioning South Park. Parodying what's essentially already a parody of everything just feels so META, you know? It feels good, don't deny it. In tonight's episode, "Sarcastaball" Randy changes the rules to football to avoid head-injuries... and the sport that comes out of it becomes wildly popular. In the still below, the boys are suited up for Sarcastaball battle. From left to right it's Kenny, Butters, Kyle, Stan, and Cartman. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: New Girl

I'm loving that our selection of photos to caption are widening with all of these new premieres. It's actually almost harder on me because I actually have choices to choose from! Woohoo! Making my life harder somehow makes me a lot happier. Here are the winners from Friday's contest:

From Sylar108:

Barney: " Haaaaaave you met Quinn's bra?"

From jaynashvil:

Barney: "Whoever fits this bra is the murderer!!!"
Robin: "This is why we got kicked off the murder mystery cruise."

From darkitp:

Barney: "First thing we should teach the child is how to unhook the bra—Robin do your civic duty and wear this!"

It's back! Twice, actually: First at 8pm and then again at 9pm, with a little Ben and Kate squished in between the two episodes—very sneaky, Fox! Anyway, in one of tonight's episodes, "Re-Launch," Jess gets laid off from her teaching gig and Schmidt hires her as a shot girl for his new "rebranding" party. Also, this happens: As you can see in the still below, Schmidt has designed a new garment and he explains what it is to Winston. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: How I Met Your Mother

Thank you, all of you, for the well wishes last Friday. I can't believe it's my last week of Open Caption! Eek! Let's make this one count, eh? Here are the winners from Friday's contest:

From qbe_64:

Nathan: "Stay very still, there's a fly on your cheek."
Duke: "Um, I've got a fly swatter in the kitchen."
Nathan: "There's no time!"

From Taccado:

Nathan: "You made it to third base with my girl?! Now I'm going to bat a home run with your balls!"

From AllanHarvey1:

Nathan: "This is going to hurt you more than it's going to hurt me!"
Duke: "No crap—you wouldn't feel it even if Babe Ruth hit you with a bat!"

I feel like this show hasn't been on in forever—and yet, I feel like it's always on. Countless hours of syndication will do that, I guess. In tonight's Season 8 return, Barney and Robin are preparing for their walk down the isle—but each of them worries the other will get cold feet, making for the most depressing pre-wedding jitters known to man. In the still below the gang stands around while Barney shows them... something Barney would most definitely show them. From left to right it's: Barney, Quinn, Robin, Marshall, and Lily. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Haven

Were you just so excited to see Leslie Knope again last night? And how about that John McCain guest appearance? It wasn't quite like the image I posted suggested it would be, but it was still pretty great.

Speaking of great, I have some news that falls toward the opposite side of that spectrum (a.k.a. the "not so great" side): Next week will be my last at TV.com. I've enjoyed working here so much—this site is run by really, really great people, you guys—but I came across an opportunity that couldn't pass up, so I made the difficult decision to say goodbye. As far as what will happen to Open Caption, I'm not entirely sure. It may go on a brief hiatus until the team can find a replacement "host," so to speak, but you can read more on that in Jen's next Letter from the Editor, which will go up today or tomorrow. I'll really miss getting to read your submissions each day! It was truly a joy to start off each morning with a laugh. So thank YOU! Now let's quit blubbering and make the next week of Open Captioning the BEST WEEK EVVEERRRRRR!!!

Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From darkitp:

Leslie: "After 76 years, I finally dragged McCain out of the closet..."
McCain: "Don't ask, don't tell... lol"

From CJ42090:

Leslie: "Hey Senator, do you think Mitt Romney has any chance of winning the election?"
McCain: "Knope!"

From smithinjapan:

Amy Poehler: "I can see Russia from my window, eh, McCain??"

Hey, did you guys know this show was based on Stephen King's The Colorado Kid? Trivia! Haven returns for its third season tonight and it kicks off with Duke and Nathan looking for Audrey. But back in town, things are starting to get stranger than ever before, which leads many to believe that more disappearances might start to occur. In the still below, Nathan (R) appears to be holding a baseball bat while staring threateningly at Duke (L). Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Parks and Recreation

Give yourself a pat on the back for making it to Thursday! We had another great round of submissions, but man, how could I deny Homerman92 that top slot? I don't think I'd ever thought about it before, but chronic slumber partying through adulthood=the Peter Pan syndrome for women. And that, in and of itself, makes me laugh. Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From Homerman92:

Divya: "Look me in the eyes and tell me you're not too old for slumber parties."

From qbe_64:

Divya: "Hey, look at me, LOOK AT ME."
"Have you seen my stapler?"

From Taccado:

Model: "Is there something in my nose?"
Divya: "I can't see anything. In fact, there seems to be literally nothing in your head."

Woohoo, Parks and Rec is back! Finally. And in tonight's Season 5 return, Andy and Leslie will hop on over to America's capital to pay Ben and April a visit. And hey, while they're there they may as well rub elbows with a couple of politicians, right? In the still below, Leslie shares a laugh with Senator John McCain. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: The Royal Pains Finale

Great day for Open Captioning, wouldn't you say? So many great suggestions yesterday! But sadly I can only choose one three. Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From darkitp:

Mr. K: "They told me to push the button every 108 minutes, or the world's gonna end..."

From Vaso_P:

Mr. K: "I read on the internet that "poking" is the best way to make new friends."

From qbe_64:

Beardo: "If you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, why can't you pick your friend's nose?"

Seeing as this MIGHT just be the ONLY scripted show that's airing a fresh episode on television tonight, I figured I'd let ya'll caption it (for the bazillionth time). That, and it's the finale. Win-win? I don't know. Either way, this episode is bound to be a fun one: Hank will treat a volleyball star whose mysterious ailments make Hank question his own place in the world and Divya's pseudo-relationship with Rafa the polo player will take a surprising turn. I sort of wonder if it has anything to do with the image below. In it, Divya exchanges words with a blonde model. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Go On

You know, one day I really am going to make one of those spammy comments that go, "my mom makes a zillion dollars a day sitting at home eating Cheetos" the winner. So ya'll better watch out! Until then, here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From MicahSmith3:

Booth: "Sorry, I thought Buffy was breaking in to kill me again..."

From klod008:

Brennan: "Give up! I just want to show you my new wig."

From smithinjapan:

Booth: "I ordered that pizza bloody well 40 minutes ago! Drop it at the door and leave!"

We're all pretty much on board with this show, right? I hope so, because I don't think it's too shabby so far! Also, how can you not root for Matthew Perry? In tonight's episode, "Ryan" will have to get to know his co-grievers a little bit better in order to properly move forward in his own grief. In the still below, it looks like he's doing just that. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Bones

Good morning, Captioners! I hope you enjoyed your weekend, even though two days of freedom pale in comparison to the satisfaction gained when submitting a caption for this daily competition. But, you know, to each his own. Here are the winners from Friday's contest:

From scho22:

Richard: "You're making me look too much like the monopoly guy!!!"

From MichaelBomer:

Gillian: "Think he's too young to get drunk and have sex with yet?"

From smithinjapan:

Gillian: "Is he writing 'murder' backwards again?"

It's back! It's so exciting! In tonight's Season 8 premiere, Brennan is on the run from the FBI after being framed for murder. While her team tries to track down the person who manipulated the murder evidence, they get an anonymous tip leading to yet another murder—and it may be just what they need to help poor Bones. In the still below, Booth decides to pay Brennan a visit. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Boardwalk Empire's Season 3 Premiere

Well, as you may have noticed, there was no Open Caption contest yesterday. Sadly (but also excitingly) I was called away last minute to attend a TOP SECRET set visit. It wasn't that top secret, actually, you'll find out about it soon enough. But the point is that I didn't have time to dedicate to Open Caption, so I apologize. But here are the winners from Wednesday's contest:

From ViridianDynamic:

"Someday you, too, will have a carefully groomed "barely there" beard."

From JT_Kirk:

"Aww, looook, you're daddy's little career-ender, yes you are, yes you are."

From shre123:

Gary: "Aww, he has your eyes..."
Chris: "And you have some of his puke... on your chin."

I really wanted to pay homage to the Weeds series finale this weekend, but Showtime hasn't posted any episode stills from the finale. For shame! I get very disappointed when that happens. But hey, Boardwalk Empire ain't too shabby! And HBO stepped up to the plate with episode stills! The Season 3 premiere airs this weekend, so set those DVRs. In the still below, which is from the premiere, creepy ol' mama Darmody (Gillian Darmody to be exact) stands watch over two-faced Richard Harrow, who is politely helping little Tommy Darmody do whatever he's doing with that pencil. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Guys With Kids

Open Caption is back! And so am I, but that's not really as important. It's captioning we want! After a full week's worth of submissions, I still managed to choose the top three, so here are the winners from last week's contest:

From Mate:

Emma: "I can sing one of my songs!"
Jax: "I can drive off a bridge!"

From Homerman92:

"High School Musical 4: The Biker Years"

From Hitchhiker:

Emma: "Is this really a shortcut to Disneyland?"

After all the heat I got for almost forgetting Damages on What to Watch Tonight, I thought I'd try to find a still from tonight's season finale for ya'll. But sadly, DirecTV isn't so good at posting press photos of their shows. Not that surprised, really. So we had to get scrappy and decided to post a still from NBC's new Guys With Kids show, which I'm sure very few of your are excited about, but hey let's still have some fun with those captions, eh? In the still below, Chris (R) and Gary (L) talk to a baby, nbd. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Sons of Anarchy

Hello everybody, I've got some big news: Due to what some like to call "vacation time" I am going to be MIA for the next few days, meaning I won't be here to moderate your caption greatness until next Wednesday. One full week! But hey, you can use the extra time to think of an amazing caption that will literally blow my socks off upon my return. If you manage to do that, I'll take photographic evidence. Before the gun goes off to let you start thinking, here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From kanniballl:

Neal: "Soon my mime training will be complete, and I will no longer need this real glass box."

From jaden84:

Neal: "Even if I lean it this way, my reflection still looks good."

From DanielleS05:

Neal: "There's a Ron Burgundy joke in here somewhere."

I figure that because we have all of this extra time before choosing a winning submission, there's no real reason to post a still from one of tonight's episodes (also there were no stills from tonight's episodes that warranted a week's worth of submissions) so I decided to pull from next Tuesday's premiere of Sons of Anarchy. Did you know this season will guest star Ashley Tisdale? Well, it will. And here's the photo to prove it. In it, she sits on the back of Jax's ride. Her character's name is Emma Jean. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: White Collar

Welcome back, Kotter captioners! What a great bevy of submissions we racked up over the weekend! I'm supremely impressed. Here are the winners from Friday's contest:

From JT_Kirk:

Doctor: "Ok, ok, let's stop and ask ourselves: WWDTD—What Would David Tennant Do?"

From Daniel-Jackson:

Doctor: "I saw the fall of Troy. World War V. I pushed boxes at the Boston Tea Party. Now I'm going to get killed by plumbers. In Cardiff."

From Simonuela:

Doctor: "But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is Amy and Rory come to kick you in the ..."

Well, I can't say it's the best night of television for photo captioning, but I did my best to find something scripted and wound up with yet another nugget from White Collar. In tonight's "Ancient History" Neal and his team try to track down a thief who's been stealing rare artifacts from multiple museums. In the still below, Neal inspects the museum glass with Alexandra. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Wilfred's Vision Quest

We all know why we're here by now, right? So let's cut to the chase! Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From Taccado:

TK: "Leave the gun, take the can-noli, right?"
Jimmy: "You're such a wise-guy."

From darkitp:

TMZ: "This just in: Kanye West seen leaving a store with his girlfriend Kim Kardashian holding baby food, and wow what a giant Belly... we think this is a baby bump!"

From wind_shadow:

TK: "So help me if I break a nail opening this can of beer..."

In tonight's "Questions" Ryan goes soul-searching to figure out why Wilfred exists in the first place. In the still below, Wilfred, Ryan, and Red Wolf stand together—talking about something, I assume. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Doctor Who

Who's ready for the three day weekend? Any Americans in the house? Of course, this means we won't have the results from today's contest until Tuesday, but don't worry—I already told myself you wouldn't mind. I'm extremely polite like that. Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From Taccado:

Wilfred: "Ryan, am I going crazy? I see that wolf as a full-grown man in a wolf costume."

From ted2332:

Wilfred: "At least I put some effort into my suit."

From Hitchhiker:

Wilfred: "Hands off! I'm the dog in this bromance, you fake!"

The doctor is back! Who is ready for some time-traveling space-continuum action-packed goodness? You are, I bet! In this weekend's Season 7 premiere, Doctor who gets kidnapped and taken to a planetary prison that just so happens to be less of a prison, per se, and more of an asylum. In the still below, the doctor finds himself in a bit of a bind. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: The Necessary Roughness Finale

Oh man, oh man, it's another day on the Open Caption playing field. Who will win? Who will conquer? Who will make me snort so hard milk comes out my nose? Who will buy me a new carton of milk? Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From smithinjapan:

Annie: "I know you're pissed I called shotgun, but stop kicking the seat!"

ZeroCals:

Annie: "OMG! Like the audience, the bad guys have realized I'm a terrible spy, too..."

ViridianDynamic:

Annie: "When I said 'Up for anything :)' on the dating website, this isn't what I had in mind."

In tonight's season finale, "All the King's Horses," the team is confronted with a potential disaster right before their season opener. That can't be good. In the still below, TK (L) and Jimmy (R) crack open some brewskies on the street, no big. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Covert Affairs Takes it to Cuba

Holy catfish, how happy are you that we are finally starting to break out of the summer lull and as such have more shows available to caption?! Choosing the champions for today's caption was a much closer call than it was yesterday (and this time I saw all the submissions, promise), so I just went with whatever made me smile the hardest. Here are the winners from yesterday's contest:

From Homerman92:

Alice: "We are out of lobster!"
"Everybody panic!"

JamesButko:

Alice: "If you ask me if I'm working hard or hardly working ONE MORE TIME, I will personally shove your head into the oven."

MicahSmith3:

Alice: "Damnit! Why does my wig have bangs?!?!?!?"

Tonight's "Loving the Alien" takes us to CUBA! Annie decides to accept Simon's offer to frolic off to Cuba together so she can secretly round up some extra dirt on him, but the CIA couldn't accompany her as backup on the trip, so she's left to her own devices (and fears). In the still below, Annie sits worriedly in a badass old car while Simon chills in the background in his dark blue blazer. Also, there's an old guy in the car. Post your best caption ideas in the comments!

Open Caption: Warehouse 13's Don't Ask Alice

70 submissions and another landslide win? I am "lit-rally" beaming with pride this morning. Soak up your awesomeness as you check out the winners from Friday's contest:

From FringeFanatic:

Bill: "I'm awful."

JayAtkinson:

Bill: "We will destroy the humans with our superhuman strength and speed and agility, the ability to glamour and maybe even the power of flight in some cases... But each take a gun, just in case!"

Mrsbizkit:

Bill: "I won't eat my 'vegetarians' and you can't make me!"

In tonight's "Fractures," the murderous spirit of Alice Liddell is freed after a Lewis Carroll book goes missing from the warehouse. Creepy! In the still below, Alice (in Kristen's body) exchanges words with what appears to be a caterer. Is she looking for the Queen of Hearts? Post your best caption ideas in the comments!
